For the mountain bikers around during the early boom years of the sport, you’ll remember the Onza name, a once iconic tyre manufacturer. It was confined to the history books a long time ago, though a trials company baring the same name since sprouted up in Nottingham.
That aside there has been nothing in the way of tyres. But that all changed when, three years ago, a Swiss-based company decided they needed to be brought back. Headed up by mountain bikers with 10 years of experience, the company has launched a range of new tyres.
And now the tyres are available in the UK, as Evans Cycles have confirmed they’ll be distributing the full range, the latest addition to the retailers exclusive brand portfolio and arriving in early April.
“We’re excited to be bringing Onza back to the UK marketplace after a long overdue hiatus. There’ll be a large core group of mtbers with whom the onza name will be synonymous with some great memories of the early boom years of the sport. With an extensive product line-up, great rubber compounds and tread patterns, and a minimal, stylish look, the new tyres look set to perform on all fronts,” said Evans Cycles Brand Marketing Manager Albert Steward.
When it comes to product development Onza tyres have a whole raft of talent (typically Swiss) at their disposal to call upon for testing, feedback and development purposes; Enduro expert René “Mr Megavalanche” Wildhaber, World Cup 4X and BMX riders Roger Rinderknecht and David Graf, and Marathon/XC rider Myriam Saugy form Onza tyres‘ formidable selection of Swiss riders that help drive the new “ERA“ pro-level testing/feedback programme, to ensure that Onza tyres retain their winning ways and to help produce the best tyres possible.
