Have you been waiting for On-One to release some tyres? Available in both 26in and 29in? Well, the wait is now over, as Brant Richards, back at the company where it all started for him, was showing new 29er rubber at the Taipei cycle show recently.
Here’s a clearly excited Brant breaking the news: “We’re proud to inform the world that we’re pursuing a product plan of a number of serious performance off-road tyres with a number of leading manufacturers covering 26in and 29in wheelsizes.”
There’ll be three tread patterns on offer initially, the 2.25in Smorgasbord, 2.4in Chunky Monkey and the insane (but someone will buy them no doubt) 3.8in Floater.
The Smorgasbord will be available in 26in and 29in formats, and is billed as an all-conditions tyre. It’s been designed by Shiggy Person, a legendary tyre fanatic from North California who works for On-One out of their Portland office. It’ll be available in 60a singlecompound, and 60a/42a dual compound. With an Exo sidewall and a folding bead.
The 2.4in Chunky Monkey will also be available in 26in and 29in formats. It’s an “Extreme” conditions tyre, also designed by Shiggy Person. It’ll be available in 60a single compound, and 60a/42a dual compound. With an Exo sidewall and a folding bead.
And saving the bizzare for last, the 3.8in “Floater“. It’s shown here in the wooden CNC’d sample form (it’s a nice grade MDF, not oak), this is the 26in “Fat” tyre for their “Floater” bike that will be released later this year.
Samples aren’t available, and pricing isn’t set. “But it’s going to be ace,” concludes Brant.
