Dirt Mountainbike has launched a fantasy league ahead of the 2011 downhill World Cup season – with the top prize a Trek Session 8 worth £3400.
The league, sponsored by Trek UK, will also offers prizes at the end of each of the seven World Cup rounds and includes the season-ending World Championships in Champery, Switzerland on August 31.
Teams must be picked by Thursday April 21 ahead of the first World Cup round in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, on Saturday April 23.
Dirt will promote the league to Factory Media’s online audience of over one million cycling enthusiasts.
“For the 2011 World Cup race season we have brought in an ‘all singing and all dancing’ system that will make our Fantasy League work like a dream, be fully interactive and also a bit of fun,” said Dirt editor Mike Rose.
“The format is simple; you pick a team from our list of riders, the team must include four male riders and one female rider, but the team must cost no more than £675,000.
“You can ‘buy’ Gee Atherton for £225k, Steve Peat for £200k, last year’s dark horse Cam Cole for £175k, Bryceland for £125k, but remember, the maximum spend is £675k. And, of course, you need to give your team a name.”
