Most charity bike events are one-offs, cover huge distances or visit exotic foreign locations or both. But Cancer Research UK’s Cycle for Life events, supported by Nivea for Men, buck the trend. Instead of one huge ride they’re organising 18 smaller ones – occasional-cyclist friendly 15 mile loops in a series of readily-accessible venues across the UK. Which sounds like a fine plan to us. All the rides are held on a Sunday morning, with the first on 29 June from Rosslyn Park, near Richmond Park, London.
It’s all in aid of raising awareness of cancers that affect men – one in three men will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. The target is £650,000, which’ll all be raised by riders taking part. Rather than having a minimum sponsorship requirement and extracting the admin costs from it, the Cycle for Life events have a small entry fee (£7.50 for adults, £4.50 for under-18s) to cover the costs, so you know that all of the sponsorship money you raise goes straight to Cancer Research UK.
Everyone finishing a Cycle for Life event gets a finisher’s medal and a goodie bag. Raise over £175 and Cycle for Life will send you a thank-you gift from Nivea for Men. And it’ll be a great family-friendly day out, which is always a good thing…
