Graeme Layzell, MTB ranger at Cwmcarn, has just been in touch to let us know that diversions are now in place around the felling operations that briefly closed the trail last week. The diversion means you won’t get 2km of singletrack (Odin, for those sufficiently familiar with the trail to know which bit that is…), but that leaves the other 15km intact. Which is nice.
Graeme tells us that the diversion passes through a neighbouring farmer’s field and asks that riders respect his land, shut gates and please don’t drop anything except your riding buddies.
It’s worth noting that diversions and reroutes are a fairly common occurrence along Welsh forestry trails. They are, after all, in working forests. Generally they’re fairly minor, so you can show up and be reasonably sure of a great ride. Occasionally they’re more substantial and very occasionally something happens at very short notice like the storms the other month. If you’re wondering about trail status, a quick call to Forest Enterprise on 01970 890500 should do the trick.
