Make sure you’re packing big lights and travelling in a group if you’re planning any night rides near Llandovery in West Wales imminently – the BBC reports that a pair of big cats are on the loose in the Tywi valley. Armed police are staking out a farm upon which a “puma-like animal” killed a farmer’s dog – another cat joined it with the farmer watching all along, although neither made any attempt to attack him.
Four months ago police searched for a mystery big cat near Newport and there’ve been plenty of sightings in Wales over the years. You’re remarkably unlikely to be attacked by one of them, but police advise that anyone out in the hills after dark should carry powerful torches and be at least in pairs. So there’s another excuse for buying yourself a new set of lights…
