After his seperation with the Giant team over his admittance
of EPO use, Jerome Chiotti entered the mountainbike-wilderness. Now he’s out of it,
and has signed up to ride for Euro-brand Lapierre.
Company owner Gilles Lapierre, a lifetime proponent of clean cycling, was openly
pleased about signing Chiotti. "Jerome is a good and honest man. His decision
to use EPO four years ago was a poor one. However, his more recent decision to reveal
this on his own, and assume all of the consequences voluntarily, was honorable. I
am happy to have him riding for Team Lapierre".
Chiotti’s first event for Team Lapierre will be the upcoming Roc D’Azur, the biggest
mountain bike event in France. Afterwards, Chiotti will focus on the French National
Cyclo-Cross Cup and French National Cyclo-Cross Championships in early 2001. He will
also do some racing with the Division II road team, SCO Dijon.
