In a rare “government thinks about cyclists” moment, Gordon Brown has lopped VAT off cycle helmets in a bid to get more folk wearing them.
The moves were reported by us following the pre budget annoncement back in November, and theoretically it means prices of lids will drop by 17.5% straightaway, but it’ll be interesting to see how fast this actually occurs via distributors and your local bike shop.
Although some riders see helmets as a terrible infringement of their ‘wind through their wig’ civil liberties or an incitement to leap head first into oncoming traffic, we at BIKEmagic know that without the protective qualities of polystyrene saving our skulls on numerous occasions we wouldn’t be sat here writing this.
If you haven’t got a lid already, get one now before we have to put on obituary column on the site.
There’s another budget bonanza for those of you who use a bike for work related travel. The mileage allowance for bike journeys has now increased from 13p to 20p, so get hassling your employer now.
