British Mountain Bike Race Series set for finale

Liam Killeen

The British Mountain Bike Race Series is set to reach its climax this month with the fifth and final round at Newnham Park on September 24-26 to decide the overall winner.

Both Oli Beckingsale and Liam Killeen are neck-and-neck in the men’s standings, with Beckingsale looking to take revenge on his rival after Killeen claimed the National Championships.

But the duo will also face competition from plenty of young riders looking to steal the headlines on the testing course, which features the infamous ‘Pipeline’ descent and has previously hosted World Cups and National Championships.

In the women’s race, leader after four rounds Rosara Joseph must see off the challenge of Lily Matthews, Lee Craigie, Kait Elliott and Maddie Horton.

And 2004 Olympic cross-country champion Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesja could be in line to make an appearance in Plymouth.

As well as the elite races on Saturday, the weekend will also feature the final round of the team relay as well as a floodlight cross race, plus the opportunity to demo 2011 bikes.
