We’ve had plenty of entries for our Gill jacket competition so far, but we’re looking for more. By way of encouragement or inspiration, here’s a few that have caught our eye from the entries so far. They’re not necessarily going to win, but they’re not necessarily not going to win either – your chances of success are not affected by being here.
We’re looking for pictures that show why you deserve a new jacket. Plenty of people have sent pictures that, while thoroughly splendid, lack a strong jacket theme. Those that have played the “this is why I need a jacket” angle have either concentrated on the “I ride in the rain and wet a lot”, like this one from Wayne Lacko:
In a similar vein, here’s Granville Haigh on Mastiles Lane, Yorkshire in August:
Other entries went for the “my old jacket’s wrecked” approach, but few with more justification than this one from Adam Simmonite of his riding buddy George. Yes, that’s gaffer tape holding the sleeve together (you can tell from Adam’s subtle annotation). It’s been like that for years, apparently.
Then there’s the novelty entries, including this one from Ricky deLeyos of him “competing” at the Dirt Rag Punk Bike Enduro in Pittsburgh. The pic was taken by Elizabeth Klevens – it was 20degF with up to six inches of snow, which makes Ricky’s choice of garb all the more bewildering:
And finally an honourable mention to Ben Coleman. His jacket looks OK, but we’re not sure about his bike and have a sneaking suspicion that a bit of practice with Photoshop may not come amiss…
Thanks for all of your entries – don’t worry if yours isn’t here, they’re all in the running. If you fancy your chances, send us your pictures and you could win a Gill jacket…
