Previously hard to find, Boardman Bikes 29ers are now available from Halfords.
Anyone who heard Chris Boardman’s commentary of the Olympic mountain bike races a couple of weeks ago would have gathered that he’s somewhat keen on 29ers, but until recently the big-wheeled versions of Boardman mountain bikes have been hard to find.
Not any more, as they’re now available from Halfords.
Or at least, this one is. For 750 of your English pounds, the Boardman Comp 29er features an triple butted 7005 aluminium frame and Suntour Epicon fork with adjustable damping and 15mm quick-release. The transmission s SRAM X5 27 speed and Avid hydraulic discs do the stopping. Fat 2.2-inch Continental Mountain king tyres are a nice ‘roll over everything’ touch.
The Boardman Comp 29er joins two other 29ers – from house brand Voodoo – in Halfords’ line up. It must surely be a strong indication that bg wheels are here to stay when the UK’s biggest high street bike retailer, not traditionally known for taking risks, has three models available.
