Big-wheel specialist Niner has announced what it claims to be its be its best bike ever, the 125mm-travel RIP 9 RDO carbon fibre trail bike.
Niner only makes 29-inch wheeled bikes, and can claim credit for popularising the platform when it was still a fringe idea being treated sceptically by the mainstream. This is the carbon fibre version of the RIP 9, a bike Niner calls a “quiver killer”: one bike that does everything well from riding cross-country trails to belting down an enduro.
The RIP 9 RDO shares its aluminium kid brother’s basic design, with Niner’s CVA 29er-specific suspension, tapered head tube and oversized bearings, but has a shade more travel (125mm against the RIP 9’s 117mm), carbon linkages and of course a carbon fibre frame.
Nestled in the middle of it all is a Fox Float CTD shock with Kashima coating, tuned for the CVA suspension. The frame has removable ISCG 05 tabs, increased tyre clearance, internal cable routing, and 142mm rear dropouts.
The RIP 9 RDO is dropper-post compatible, as you’d expect, with in-built routing for a height-adjustable post.
The frame is designed to take a fork with between 120mm and 140mm of travel and comes with Niner’s five-year warranty.
Dickon Hepworth at UK importer Jungle Products says he hasn’t been given pricing from Niner yet, but “it looks like it’s coming in at the same cost as the 2013 Jet RDO so it’ll be £2,899 frame/shock.”
In the US there will also be a version with a RockShox Revelation RT3 130mm travel fork in the same Rally blue finish as the frame.
