Crank Brothers have updated the Mallet pedals for 2012. The body now uses a split polycarbonate/aluminium design, and is also lower profile than previously bringing your foot closer to the pedal axle.

The large platform pedals have been given a new forged chromoly spindle along with press-fit internals, using a combo of needle and cartridge bearings to keep them rolling smoothly. There’s 10mm pins dotted across the pedal and they’re adjustable.

There’s three price points for the Mallet, starting with the entry-level 1 (£45) and rising to the bells and whistles 3 (£100). We’ve just received the mid-tier 2, which cost £74.99.

The mallet 2 weighs 428g.
