The first every Transpyr mtb adventure is underway. On Saturday 19 June over a hundred riders set off from Roses on the Mediterranean coast in Catalunya, Spain towards Camprodon for stage 1.
This new mountain bike adventure is an 8 day stage event and takes riders over the Pyrenees with the final destination being San Sebastian and the Atlantic, a total of over 840km and 20,000 metres of height gain.
This year the event is non competitive with the aim that next year it becomes a full-on race. The preparation and build up to the event has been immense and it certainly showed on stage one, organisation was excellent and the riders were very well catered for.
As with other similar event riders have the choice of booking hotels, camping or having helpers follow in a camper van for their overnight accommodation at the end of each stage. GPS downloads, pre-stage briefing and superb feeding stations provide the fabric to each day and if stage 1 is anything to go by the trails are brilliant, they are going to have a blast.
We’ll have a full report at the end of the whole event but from the experience of stage 1 this looks like it is set to become a classic.
More soon. For now find out more about the event at www.transpyr.com
