If you’re registered on the Bikemagic site and live within the North East of England (around Newcastle Upon Tyne)then why not come along to our next local riders monthly ride?
Our last ride happened on a cold but bright winters day at the back end of January. Setting off from the car park four riders headed North towards Nova Scotia…er…thats Nova Scotia, Durham. The outward leg was into a cold Northerley wind but the opening climb kept us warm as we left the tarmac and much of “civilisation” far behind. Heading west we were soon on top of a quite glorious view, and despite recent heavy rain the grassy bridleway still proved 95% rideable.
Dan on his sofa-soft Santa Cruz lead from the back on a quietly classic route that eventually crossed the A66 and went across “Gods Bridge”. This is a natural river crossing of solid stone that is very picturesque and gave us a chance to catch our breath.
The bridleway from the bridge soon becomes quite difficult to follow, heading South towards a deep ravine we eventually admitted we’d lost the BW!!! Mustering Trailquest experience we eventually crossed a deep ravine (aint Porelle Drys great in rivers!) and picked up the BW near some farm buidings. A quick chaingang formed on the tarmac return to Bowes and smiles all round.
…all we missed was a bacon butty for a great little winter ride.
The next ride is at Hamsterley Forest on the 27th February, so if you’re in the area email us and we’ll send out the instructions!!!!
