Great news for all the “Gravity focused” riders out there. Although it looked shaky for a while, the Welsh Dragon downhill series is now running the full season for 2002, with the same level of lunatic courses as previous years.
The Dragon series had been looking like a non-starter after F+M and other problems last year. But Jason Carpenter from Goldtec has pulled a 12 round series (2 rounds each weekend) out of the bag, thanks to sponsorship from GOLDTEC and DIRT MAGAZINE.
The WCU Dragon Downhill series in not for beginners, a point that they make very clear themselves on the Dragon website:
“The WCU Dragon Downhill series will only use courses that are long, steep, fast and technically difficult. “The use of full face helmets IS COMPULSORY and body armour is advised at all times when using our courses.”
Those who like things even more difficult will be pleased to note that there is a hardtail category at every round as well as a trip away from Wales to Metabief in August.
As downhill website descent world says, “These races are the best in the country south of Carlisle, PERIOD, BEST TRANSPORT, BEST COURSES AND BEST SIGN-ON!”
Before you get your full face helmets all steamed up with excitement, here’s the dates for your diary,
