Notoriously slack students are causing big problems for the organisers of
their own national race event and the lack or current entries may cause the event to be cancelled.
Slow moving and unorganised students are expected to flood the event with
entries just before the event on the 16th and 17th of March. However,
organiser Paddy Hill has said the event will have to be cancelled if he
doesn’t receive more entries by early next week.
Before anyone grumbles at being made to get out of bed, Paddy’s the one who’s
gone to the trouble of organizing what sounds like a cracking event up at
Hamsterley. But if he doesn’t get confirmed entries now, he won’t risk
forking out for the loos, on site bar, live music and all the other stuff
that’s been planned.
The event is due to be the biggest student cycling event of the year with
loads of universities sending teams to compete for the downhill and cross
country championships. If it goes ahead, it will be a welcome return for the race which last year was
cancelled due to foot and mouth and in 2000 had a disappointing DH race
across a field. This year the XC course will be a very challenging
forest route, and the DH will run on the NAMBS course not the previously
feared NPS course.
Even if you’re not that fussed about the racing, it’s a
chance to get together in the middle of nowhere with a whole bunch of other
biking students.
So turn off the Teletubbies and get those entries in!
