With “Howling winds, pouring rain and sleet that followed the snow that fell in the early hours of Sunday morning” the organisers of last weekend’s 3rd Bikesport Winter DH race at Innerleithen had no option but to cancel the event.
Team leader Elliot told us “there was 5 inches of snow at the top of the hill, and there was no way that the transport lorries could run or the course be marshalled safely.”
The organising team are looking at ways to refund everyone who was entered, either by fitting a re-scheduled race into the spring season, or with a free uplift day membership/uplift pass that could be
‘cashed in’ for use at the Red Bull Project downhill at any time over the
summer. Unfortunately providing a full refund would leave Bikesport seriously out of pocket and affect plans for subsequent races.
Elliot finished by saying, “apologies to all those who had travelled to race. Please be understanding and watch this space for details.”
We knew there had to be a flipside to having such great riding terrain and trails up north.
