The British Heart Foundation Bedgebury Night Ride is calling for more women to sign up for its off-road overnight enduro on September 18.
The 12-hour challenge, on an eight mile course through Bedgebury Forest, has received more than 160 entries – but only five per cent have come from women.
Solo entries can be made but pair, triple and quad categories are also available.
And Emily Orton, one of eight ladies to have already committed, is urging her fellow females to send off their entry forms.
”I can’t believe there are so few women taking on this challenge. I know it’s going to be tough, especially being through the night, but that’s half the fun, I can’t wait.
“I would encourage anyone, men or women to come and get involved. I hope to achieve at least 8 laps and raise £200 for the charity.
“It’s a great opportunity to do something fun and different whilst doing something for a great cause.”
Jo White, 30, added: “I’m taking part in a quad team of cyclists, who each hope to ride as a relay through the night.
“This will mean 3 laps for me probably as each lap takes around an hour. I’m surprised so few women have taken up the challenge because I can’t wait.
“I hope to raise £200 for the charity. It’s a great opportunity to have some fun with friends and raise money for a great charity.”
BHF regional events organiser Adam Brockett commented: “We are very grateful to everyone who has signed up already but can’t help wondering why there are so few women on this event?
“We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to come and take part in this unique event in Kent.
“Come and join the BHF for the 12 hour insomnia! Together we can save the life you love.”
