The Welsh Tourist Board have just launched a new Mountain Bike Wales site dedicated entirely to us mountain bikers.
Having almost singlehandedly restored the tourist economy of Dolgellau thanks to the Red Bull, Karrimor and MBR trails at nearby Coed-y-Brenin, Wales has realised that mountain bikers are a very good thing indeed. The Welsh National Assembly are now spending £500,000 at various sites to make things even better for us.
The new website gives details of six dedicated mountain bike centres – Betws-y-Coed, Coed-y-Brenin, Machynlleth, Nant-yr-Arian, Llanwrtyd Wells and Afan Argoed – including trail descriptions, bike facilities such as bike washes, bike shops, bike hire and bike guides as well as how to get there, where to eat and where to stay. There’s even sections on non-bikey stuff to do at each centre and advice on whether you’ll need to get your coat or not.
Regular news updates will keep you up to date with new trail openings (there are now dedicated full time trailbuilding teams in Coed, Betws, Afan and Cwm Carn) as well as special accomodation offers and events details if you register on line. In fact it’s so good it’s almost like we wrote it ourselves (ahem!).
