Volvo Cannondale has been one of the longest established and most successful MTB teams on the circuit. Formed in 1994 (remember that red and yellow kit?), over the years they’ve sponsored tons of riders and won squillions of races. But now the Swedish car manufacturer and the US bike manufacturer are going their separate ways…
To mark the passing of the team, Cannondale are running a Final Toast campaign to celebrate their achievements and thank all the riders. And an impressive list they both make. In their eight years, Volvo Cannondale won 11 World Championships, 17 World Cup titles, 16 National Championships, 89 World Cup wins, 33 NORBA wins, 2 Olympic games and 2 Pan-Am Games Gold medals. And that’s just the wins. There’s a healthy quantity of podium places too – 184 at World Cup events, 35 in World Cup series, 21 at World Championships, 84 at NORBA events.
It’s hardly surprising that they’ve won so much stuff when you look at the list of riders they’ve had on the roster over the years:
Alison Sydor, Alla Epifanova, Andreas Hesslar, Annabella Stropparo, Anne-Caroline Chausson, Brian Lopes, Brigitta Kasper, Cadel Evans, Cedric Gracia, Christoph Sauser, Cyrille Bonnand, David Vasquez, Franck Roman, Johan Engstrom, Kashi Leuchs, Kenichi Nabeshima, Kim Sonier, Lance Trappe, Libor Karas, Martyn Ashton, Marc Gullickson, Myles Rockwell, Oscar Saiz, Sara Ellis, Tinker Juarez and Todd Snider.
So that’s it for Volvo Cannondale. But it’s not the end of the story – Cannondale say they’ll still be racing in 2003. Sponsors and riders to be confirmed. We’ll keep you posted…
