The Vienna Air King, now approaching its third year, will see many of Europe’s best riders performing their signature tricks bang in the heart of Vienna, on 19-20 April.
Taking a bunch of talented freeriders, a huge pile of timber, a dumper truck load of dirt and building a course in the middle of a packed city is proving a popular format. In 2007 the event caught the imagination of over 65,000 people.
As ever though, the bar has been raised this year, with bigger jumps and longer gaps. Perhaps the biggest spectacle will be the several five to six metre gap jumps backdropped by the picturesque Viennese city hall.
“The Vienna Air King is one of the very first events in the season,” says Benny Korhaus, a competitor from 2007, “So it is the perfect place to meet all the old friends and see what`s up with their riding skills after a long winter.”
“In addition to that, the Vienna Air King takes place exactly one week before the first Nissan Qashqai Challenge event, so it’s the perfect training opportunity for me. I’m really looking forward to this weekend, it will be fun.”
Benny is only one of Europe’s best dirt jumpers that are invited. Rookies can also apply for the Vienna Air king to become one of the additional riders. Please take a look at http://www.vienna-air-king.at to get all the relevant information. Only a few additional starting places are available, so if you fancy your chances you’d best be quick.
Other riders to look out for are Lance McDermott, Trond Hansen, Martin Söderström, Amir Kabbani and many more.
