This year the Cycle Show celebrates its tenth anniversary by uprooting from London to Birmingham, trading Earls Court for the NEC.
And that move has allowed the organisers to build a 1km demo track, which starts within the NEC itself before heading out on to tight, twisting singletrack.
The 13-sector track includes table top jumps, flowing rock drops, low riders, cambered turns, bermed corners and a rolling/pump feature, as well as a combination of fast flowing and technical sections. There will also be a 600m road bike demo track at the show. Here’s a sneak preview:
The newly-built track will offer visitors the chance to demo bikes throughout the show, which is open to the public from September 30 to October 2 – and the trail will be staying for good once everyone’s packed up and gone home.
“The track is really good fun, with loads of flowing corners and rollers,” said Continental/Orange Mountain Bikes rider Rob Scullion after previewing the trail.
“You could almost forget you that you are on a test track and think you’re on a forestry trail. If you want to cruise round, it’s do-able for a beginner, but if you want to hammer it, there are plenty of tight turns to test your ability.”
Cycle Show event director Andrew Brabazon added: “The fact we have the space to offer an amazing track like this is one of the main benefits of moving to Birmingham. Everyone who has been on it so far has been impressed, and I expect that when visitors are riding state-of-the-art bikes around this track they are going to really enjoy it.
“The track is everything we wanted it to be and more and we can’t wait for visitors to the Cycle Show to get the chance to try it out.”
