Ultimate Freeride Challenge winner announced

Watch out for Kurt Sorge on the next crop of big-budget freeride flicks – he’s the latest winner of Race Face’s annual Ultimate Freeride Challenge video competition, having taken 58% of the votes in the final round against rival team entry Matt Brooks and Jared Gatzka. It won’t surprise anyone to learn that Kurt’s from Nelson, BC – next time this comp comes around we want to see some UK riders in there, OK? If you’ve got some talent (and we know it’s out there), pull your finger out and send them a vid next year…

You don’t even have to win to make it. Just like all those talent contests on telly, it probably won’t be long before Brooks and Gatzka get signed up to pro deals like previous runners-up Cameron McCaul and Carlin Dunne. The whole summer is ahead of you – get the cameras out.

Also up for grabs in the UFC were product prizes in various categories, awarded for stand-out sections of the submitted videos and again decided by on-line voting. Derek Peltzer won a Manitou Dorado MRD X-Works fork for Best Line, Steve Tuchwksky won a Giant Freeride frameset for Best Air (and possibly Least Pronouncable Name), Joe Perrizo won a load of Race Face Diabolus gear and a Giant STP fork for Most Creative Stunt and Best Urban Assault respectively, 13-year-old Garrett Buehler got himself a Manitou Sherman Breakout Plus fork for “Breakout Performance by a Grom” (see what they did there?) and finally Dave McLaughlin got Race Face arm and leg armour, shorts, jersey and gloves to replace the ones he probably shredded in his Best Crash.
