John Tomac, one of the worlds greatest cyclists
is retiring. After 14 years of racing at the top level of three different
cycling disciplines, he’s hanging up his racing shoes to concentrate on
other things “I just have other interests now that there are other
priorities in my life than racing,” Tomac said to Bicycle Trade and
Industry magazine.
From his early days as a hotshot BMXer to his legendary riding style brought
to the fore through photoshoots with MBA magazine, and then his sucessions
of victories for his sponsors Mongoose, Yeti and others, Tomac grew in the
publics heart to be the real MTB hero. He switched to the road for a while
in ’91, but came back to great aclaim and still is one of the only riders
to successfully switch between so many disciplines.
Retiring allows Tomac more time to focus on his company, manage his race
team, develop new products and spend more time with his family
