Shaun Murray is a name well known to cyclists and mountainbikers on the newsgroups and discussion forums around the place. But his latest idea really has started to make us wonder if he’s nuts…
He’s been asking contributors to the mtb-uk forum if they’d be interested in using thumbshifters on their MTB if they were available in 8 or 9 speed versions compatible with the latest Shimano spacings? Shaun asks “How much would you pay for them assuming the quality is of XT thumbie or better quality? They’ll be CNC machined and shiny probably not that that is an indication of quality.” He wants answers by email and says “yes I’m serious. I’ve just had a conversation with a ‘man with a large tool’ to ask how much it’ll cost to design & produce” before adding “the answer being ‘LOTS!’ so unless I can persuade either a bank to give me money or a mech eng student to do it as a design project it would currently seem unlikely.” If it does happen it’ll be available via www.retrogrouch.com. |
