The recently disbanded vegetarian road team have now come under fraud investigations from cycling’s governing body, the UCI
All teams are required to post a bank guarantee so that in the event of bankruptcy at least some money can be found to pay riders who are owed salaries. However, when the UCI tried to do just this it found there was no such guarantee arranged for the McCartney team though the management had supplied false documentation to say there was.
The UCI will be filing fraud charges in either Britain or Switzerland against the management to try and regain some of the lost money. This development comes after the earlier revelation that although the team rode in McCartney colours, they were actually recieving no money from them, but were allowed to keep the pretence up to garner sponsorship from other companies.
We’re sure Linda would have been delighted with all the adverse PR this has now generated, and wonder if multi millionaire McCartney might see fit to take pity on some of the riders who have lost almost a years wages and the chance to find proper pro contracts having lost their original ‘ticket to ride’.
