Swinley wire-trap danger

Berks On Bikes MBC is a well-known club in the south-east, particularly since it’s custodian of the popular purpose-built MTB trails in Swinley Forest near Bracknell. In common with many other trail builders it’s been suffering increasing problems with motorbikes being ridden both illegally on the forest roads and on the singletrack. The forest road stuff is potentially dangerous for everyone else, while the singletrack just can’t take it and turns into a trench.

Events have recently taken a sinister turn with the discovery of fencing wire strung across trails in the forest. The suspicion is that a presumably slightly unhinged local has got so fed up with motorbikes buzzing around the forest that he’s decided to try and injure or kill them. Which is bad enough in itself, but fencing wire doesn’t know the difference between a motorbike and a mountain bike…

The message from BOB MBC is to take extra care riding in Swinley Forest and surrounding areas, and if you find any wire report it immediately to the police. It’s listed important contacts on its site.
