Sheffield-based Edge Bikes has been building and selling UK-built full suspension frames for DH, 4X and XC for a year now. Being a small outfit, it can tweak and refine the bikes as it goes along, rather than having to wait for the next big production run to make improvements. One of those refinements is targetted at dropping a bit of weight from Edge’s sturdy but perhaps a little portly frames. The designers have been testing these new 2014 aluminium linkage shafts and titanium bolts. They’ve apparently found them to be more than adequately strong and, impressively, they’re a full pound lighter than the standard stainless steel items.
The lightweight shafts will be a £50 upgrade to new frames or you can get them as an £80 retrofit kit for existing frames. New frames come as standard with the steel shafts, but prices remain the same as 2003 – from £1,099 to £1,349 according to model and shock.
