Sort of reverse events news, this. Usually we’re telling you about events that are happening, but this time it’s one that isn’t. The NATS Off-Road Tour of the Peak celebrated its tenth year in 2003, having covered 165,000 miles, raised £23,000 for charity and consumed some unspecified tonnage of cake.
There’s never more than 300 riders, so it’s been something of a cultish grassroots affair, descending on village halls for bacon butties, donating entry fees to local charities like mountain rescue and the Peak Forest donkey sanctuary and generally having a jolly good time.
But last year’s tenth birthday celebrations somewhat took it out of the organising team, and some of them have moved to Scotland and various other things. So they’re taking a breather for 2004, while promising better routes, more cakes and even more comedically verbose route descriptions for 2005…
