Looking for a bit of navigation action this weekend? Head for the Stourport Saunter (24 September), which is simultaneously Round 8 of the Techtrail National Trailquest Series and Round 7 of the Magellan Midlands Series.
The area is a new one to Trailquests, and the local bridleways are said to see few mountain bikers, so it’ll be unfamiliar terrain for most. Organiser John Wilkinson has been checking the condition of the trails regularly:
“I have been out on the trails a few days during the last week or so and despite the recent rain during the past few weeks they are very, very dry – no gloopy mud – only one or two soft bits. Some are very fast others need considerable technical skill to stay on the bike. If you like hills there will be plenty but depending on route choice some relatively flattish areas. Naturally I can’t guarantee the weather but the recent rain has just disappeared leaving dry trails. If it remains dryish the riding will be excellent.”The area also promises “stunning” views and scenery, and your route may include cider apple orchards, game bird encounters and possibly wet feet.
The advance entry closing date has passed, but entries will be available on the day. See www.midlandtrailquests.co.uk for details.
