Think the DH race season is over? Think again. This very weekend (21/22 October) sees the English DH Championships at Headon Plantation, Bratton (near Minehead).
The race carries BC ranking points, so if you want to hoist yourself up the tables a bit this could be your last chance. It’s an open event, so you don’t need a BC race license to take part – obviously you need one to pick up the points, though.
Current Champion is Dan Stanbridge, who won the race in 2005 – there wasn’t a 2006 event.
The format of the weekend is (optional) uplift day on the Saturday (10.30am to 3.30pm; £15) and racing on Sunday. There’ll be all the usual categories. There’s practice from 9am to 11.45am, then a seeding run (from 12 noon) will decide the starting order. From 2pm onwards the single race runs will be, well, run.
If you’re planning to stay for the weekend, camping is permitted but apparently the site is somewhat on the sloping side. There’ll be what are described as “rudimentary” facilities: Portaloos, water, catering.
