We reported recently that Steve Peat had broken his ankle in qualifying at the National Championships in Rheola. Details were sketchy, but the missing information has been filled in by Steve himself in a posting on the Santa Cruz website.
The crash happened in Steve’s seeding run. A quick dab of the foot to steady himself in a slippy section turned to disaster, as said foot went into a hole and popped itself out of its socket. The on-site first aiders suspected a dislocated ankle and fractured a bone, but further investigation in hospital (they opened up Steve’s foot to have a look) revealed no fractures. He’d actually dislocated his foot below the ankle, rather than the more common dislocated ankle.
Steve’s foot is now in a cast, he’s been told to keep weight off it for 6-8 weeks and will shortly be seeing a specialist as part of his campaign to get fully fit for the World Championships at Fort William in September.
You can read the whole tale in Steve’s own words on the Santa Cruz (US) website.
