There are less than three weeks until the SPAM Winter Challenge, which will take place on Salisbury Plain on Sunday December 18.
The event’s organisers tell us it’s a relaxed affair, held on all-weather trails and the chance to head out on the bike to sneak in an enduro exactly one week before Christmas.
There are three distances to choose from – 25km, 35km and 50km – on trails that are described as “not particularly technical but the weather conditions can make it more challenging.”
The course is suitable for riders of all abilities including youngsters, who can undertake either the 25km or 35km route, providing they are with an accompanying adult (not recommended for children under eight years).
Family entry for two adults and up to four children is available on the 25km route for £30. The organisers are keen to encourage young riders out on the course but warn this is an off-road event with some steep climbs and children should have had some experience of off-road riding before setting out.
The course will be fully marshalled, while professional medical will be on standby at the start/finish area (helmets are compulsory). The event also offers food, an MTB trader for spares and kit, plenty of parking, and toilets available on site. Limited water is also available from containers but riders are asked to bring their own supply. Spare clothing is also recommended for after the event.
Proceeds will be donated to local charities. In previous years, money has been donated to Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Help For Heroes, a number of local schools and pre-schools, Salisbury Hospital and The Lion’s Club.
Discounted entry (£10-£18) is available in advance at www.spamwinterchallenge.co.uk or you can turn up on the day.
