Slick’n’Knobbly Cycling Festival

The Slick‘n’Knobbly Cycling Festival is a new event for 2009 (11-12 July 2009), with the emphasis firmly on a weekend of family orientated cycling fun.

The organisers’ objective is a celebration of cycling that encourages both new and experienced cyclists, of all ages and abilities, across a variety of events and coaching/skills sessions to enjoy and experience the fun that cycling provides. It promises an action packed weekend full of activities for everyone.

The events on offer include a two and four hour enduro on Saturday morning, followed in the afternoon by a hill climb challenge. The evening will see riders contest for honours in the ‘Dirt Crit’.

Sunday offers the Devil Ride Sportive for slick tyred bikes, with a choice of distances and a spin through the highs and lows of the Welsh Valleys. Or you can take the opportunity to discover some of the Brecon Beacons excellent off road trails, safe in the knowledge that the rest of the family can partake in gentle guided rides and skills sessions on the private estate.

Families can also opt for a leisurely ride through the estate, or spend time perusing the trade stands on site. There even be the chance to brush up on your cycle skills, with both AQR and MTB Cycle Yorkshire on hand with qualified skills coaches and guides to take you safely through a selection of activities, including a fun section of mini North Shore.

Epic Cycle and Back on Track will be putting out a fleet of road and mountain demo bikes for you to test some of the latest machinery on offer.

Slick ‘n’ Knobbly will be taking place on the Glanusk Estate in South Wales, and situated in the beautiful countryside of the Usk Valley, Crickhowell. Nestled in the Brecon Beacons National Park this is one of the largest privately owned estates in Wales with 400 acres of parkland and 800 acres of private forestry.

Entry and weekend camping are totally free, with only a small charge to take part in the events listed above.
