In a move that’s set to shake the UK’s bikeshops, we’ve had information (strangely from a US trade site) that Schwinn bikes are going on sale in Halfords.

In the UK and Europe, Schwinn operate alongside GT, and with GT bikes already being sold in Halfords branches, many in the industry wondered how long it will be before Schwinn bikes were also available in the big H.

Halfords are said to be planning many new moves into cycle retail, including a concept store called “Bikehut”.

BIKEmagic Editor Brant Richards nearly went to Halfords yesterday, to buy some more antifreeze for his wife’s car. But he got some from Homebase instead when he went to get a shovel and some 20x20mm wooden beading. And some shelves for the bathroom. So he can’t say whether or not Rochdale Halfords have any in stock. “I couldn’t tell you if they have any Schwinns in stock”, said Richards, from his Todmorden office, “but they’re still selling that maintenance book that I wrote in 1990.”
