CTC’s Chris Juden has posted a sorry tale on the BM forum concerning the proposed A3 tunnel bypassing Hindhead in Surrey. Sounds like it ought to be a good thing, leaving a nice quiet bike-friendly road over the hills. But apparently not. Thanks to the National Trust and Highways Agency, there’s a good chance that the new bypass could not only result in the complete disappearance of the old road but also the inappropriate resurfacing of a currently pleasant off-road track.
