Revealed today on BikeBiz the plan is simple. Take an old 19th century stone quarry, roof it in and provide shops, outdoor sport specific gym, cafes and offices surrounded by 2400sq metres of artificial wall, 400sqm bouldering area, and a natural indoor rock wall on the old quary face. But even if you’re not a rock rat there’ll be a mountain bike track and road bike facilities as well as specific coaching advice and training programmes developed by the gym. Outdoor specialist Tisos (responsible for a similar smaller scale centre in Glasgow, have taken most of the shop space, and they’ll be ahigh quality (as yet un-named bike shop too) so this could be one out of town shopping centre well worth a visit.
There’s more details on the Ratho centre’s website but don’t hold your breath as it won’t be finished until next year. But if you’re looking for the ultimate place to set up a Scottish office start pestering your boss now.
