Downhill and endurance aren’t two words often closely associated, though events such as Megavalanche and Passeportes du Soleil have proved there’s interest in such races, having gained considerable notoriety over the years. But the Red Bull Burner aims to up the ante a notch or ten.
The Red Bull Burner is a 12-hour endurance DH race taking place on 20 September in the Angel Fire resort in New Mexico. The venue has hosted World Cup DH races before so knows how to throw a good event. Three of the Angel Fire bike parks DH trails will be used simultaneously for the event, with each run finishing conveniently at a chairlift.
Mad it may be, but with a considerable lump of cash up for grabs there’ll be some stiff competition among the solo, pairs and team categories. The winners will be determined by their total number of laps in the 12-hour period, and tech support will available at the base area adjacent to the chairlift, but riders are responsible for their own repair and equipment replacement.
