It’s now just a few days before the Kona Cheddar Bikefest takes place at Broadway House, Cheddar on the 27/28 September 2008, and with entries flying in final preparations are underway for the unofficial season finale.

The format remains essentially the same as Bristol Bikefest, for anyone familiar with that event, but with some slight adjustment to allow for the time of year. A 10-hour enduro takes place on Saturday followed by a 5-hour event on the Sunday.

As an extra for newcomers to endurance racing there’s an additional 3-hour long ‘Novice’ endurance event on Sunday. This will give everybody who is keen to find out what all the fuss is about a chance to dip their toe in the water without overdoing it straight away.

Both days can be ridden as solo events or as teams of two or four. The special twist on Saturday is that the last couple of hours will be ridden in the dark and will offer a real chance for everybody to enjoy night riding before the dark season starts. Please make sure you bring sufficient lighting and that your lights are fully charged. Night lap sponsor NiteRider (www.2pure.co.uk) will be on site showing off the latest night light technology and offering lots of prizes for the fastest night laps.

Friday night sees the NiteRider Night Time Trail, and will be free of charge for riders who have entered either the Saturday or the Sunday race and will be started from the bar at the entrance of the campground. Approximate start time for the 1st rider is around 7.00pm. If you want to do just the night time trail the entry fee is £5.

Bring the family

The Broadway House Caravan Park has lots to offer for the whole family. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool, adventure playground, crazy golf, arcades and pool tables, a mini skate park and last but not least the restaurant/café and bar. The restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the bar will open from lunch time to midnight on Friday, Saturday and depending on demand on Sunday.

Trade Village

Since Eurobike has come to a close we have had lots of companies on the phone wanting to join the trade village. Kona will bring a broad selection of their 2009 line-up to the event so make sure you don’t miss out on that. Besides that we have the following companies and brands joining the event village: Saris, Cyclops, Sortimo, Ritchey, Canterbury, NoTubes, Xtreme Video, Tag a Long, Specialized, Torq, Giant, High5, Cube, Bionicon, Merida, Cannondale, Bad Ass Bikes, RAM, Embers Merino, Formular, Wingnut, AY UP Lights, Rolling Resistance and Zero G.

Camping and facilities

Broadway House has all the usual facilities you’d expect of a proper camp site. First class showers, water points, toilets, power points for your caravan or motor home (please contact Broadway House on 01934 742610 for details) and to finish it all off you can hire your own stationary caravan. There’s a camping shop on site and the bar will be open on Friday and Saturday evening for some pre- or post-event drinks.
