RATMBC has been holding its Thursday evening race series at Checkendon all summer, and 31 August (that’s tomorrow night, at the time of writing) sees the final round. It’s a little bit different from the others, though. Certain key ingredients will be the same as the earlier races in the series – short course, cyclocross format – but there are a couple of important changes. First, it’s a team race. Each team will consist of three riders from the same category, everyone starts together, points are awarded from places (one point for first, two for second and so on) and the team with the lowest total will win. You can race solo, but there won’t be any separate prizes. Your best bet is probably to show up and get a team together with other people who arrive on their own – the organisers’ll help.
The other difference is that rather than 50 minutes plus a lap, it’ll be an hour and a half plus a lap. Which means that it’ll be dark in the woods before the end, and you’ll need lights – you won’t be allowed to start without them. Entries close at 7pm, first start is 7.15pm, entry is on the line only and £10 (£7 for club members). Numbers are limited, so get there early…
