Skate style peakless “p*ss pot” helmets have become the hardshell headgear of choice for many jump and extreme mountain bike riders despite the fact they make you look monumentally stoopid.
Top DH website Descent-World has revealed that the top riders think so too. Ever conscious of their glamorous image, Steve Peat and Greg Minaar have compiled a petition signed by the world’s top thirty downhillers, with wording as follows;
“This petition believes it is in the best interest of Downhill Racing to maintain a good image for TV and photo media by wearing motocross style helmets with visor / peak (which is 4″ or more).”
To which Rob Warner has added “no Lycra either, it looks gay” in reference to Chris Kovarik’s use of a skinsuit to gain his fraction of a second win over Steve Peat at the Maribor World Cup round.
So there you have it, if you want to look pro keep yer peak on.
