The Yorkshire Dales will host the 2006 Open24 24 hour adventure race on 29/30 July. And that’s about as specific as the organisers will be before the event – the official location is “somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales” and while they’ll freely admit that challenges in the race will include mountain biking, running and trekking, they won’t be drawn on what the “special stages” will entail. Although the fact that they seem to have become nicknamed “trouser fillers” may give you some idea.
Other things we know: Each stage will have easy or difficult routes, making Open24 suitable for beginners or experts, and those mysterious special stages are optional.
Prizes will be supplied by Mountain Hardwear, Anquet Maps and Total Adventure, while EAS will be providing energy bars and drinks throughout the race. Open24 is open to teams of two, with categories for female, make and mixed pairs. Find out more at www.openadventure.com.
