Regular readers* will already be aware of the ProCup MTB Grand Prix. It’s a three-races-in-one weekend event, with “XC+”, Team Relay and Enduro stages. Teams of four will race over all three stages, or you can race as an individual across the XC+ and Enduro bits.
If you’re wondering what “XC+” means, allow us to elaborate. The ProCup organisers have come up with a completely new, purpose-built course at Brickiln Farm, near Alton, Hampshire. The start will be in a motor racing arena before heading out into a singletrack-laden course that also includes bombholes and North Shore-style sections. And then there’s the “+” bit – the last 400m of singletrack has its own starting gate and will be timed in its own right. So as well as finishing positions for the separate stages contributing to your overall position, how fast you can cover that particular section could make all the difference.
Teams will comprise four people – the mix of age, gender and ability is entirely up to you. Camping will be available on site, and there’ll be proper flushing toilets and washing facilities as well as a “riders’ lounge” where off-duty racers can relax and watch the riders on course going by.
Saturday evening’s entertainment will include a live band, while Felt, X-Lite and Specialized have all stumped up prizes. There’ll be a cash prize for the winning team, too. The dates are 19/20 August and entries are now open – download a form from www.pro-cup.com or enter online at www.justridingalong.com.
