Moore loses out on line

A solo bid for victory by Mid-Devon Cycling Club’s Darren Moore was foiled yards from the line at the finish of Exeter Wheelers’ second midweek Starcross Road Race.

Moore broke away on the final circuit of the 40-mile event with Tom Collier (VC St. Raphael), then dropped Collier on the last climb out of Kenton.

Nigel Polkinghorne (St. Austell Wheelers) tried to bridge the gap, but had to settle for second place as Moore was finally gobbled up in a bunch sprint finish won by Greg Sandy (Global RC), who had also taken three earlier lap-primes.

Moore was fourth and Mid-Devon teammate Simon Aske seventh.

Newton Abbot’s Tracey Fey was second in the Ladies’ Expert race at the SAMS (South Amateur Mountainbike Series) meeting at Corfe Castle, Dorset.

Tracey led for three-and-a-half of the four laps (20 miles) before eventual winner Jennifer Whealey passed her for victory by ten seconds.

Mid-Devon CC’s John Peters was 25th in the Men’s Expert race.

Mid-Devon CC ‘10′ Time Trial: 1 Greg Sandy (Global RC) 21.03 2 Adrian Sluman (Plymouth Corinthian) 21.45 3 Mark Pollard (Mid-Devon) 21.58)

Other Mid-Devon times – Chris Lacklison 22.33 (ist Vet/40) Steve Lawrence 23.22, Chris Halls 23.25, Deanna Shepherd 23.26 (1st Lady).
