Mountain Mayhem, this year sponsored by Original Source, is regularly oversubscribed and getting a place is partly down to how keenly you get your entry form in, plus a dose of luck. This year has been no different, with the organisers reporting that 3,125 riders have applied, the biggest response the event has ever had.
The rider limit is 2,500, and it took just a couple of weeks before that limit was surpassed. True to form, eager competitors went to great efforts to ensure they got a place, with some reportedly travelling all the way from Scotland and others including begging letters, cakes and sweets in an attempt to land an entry.
“The response to Original Source Mountain Mayhem this year has been fantastic and the overwhelming amount of applications is testament to the event’s huge popularity,” says Original Source Senior Brand Manager Nigel Wolstenholme.
“We’re really excited about this year’s event,” he adds, “it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. Expect a no-holds-barred weekend of mud, muscle-pain and mountain biking combined with lots of surprises!”
“Since its beginning back in 1998, the event has grown and developed over the years to become the biggest 24-hour mountain bike endurance event worldwide,” says organiser Patrick Adams. “This year’s response proves it’s only going to get even bigger.”
