Leeds Dual Slalom

Leeds based Dual slaom series ‘Full Contact’ has confirmed the first date of the summer series as 5th June, 1999.

The Event is sponsored by Leeds MTB gurus Stif, providing a Santa Cruz Chameleon as First prize for the series. The Event is being held at the Woodside Quarry, Horsforth, Leeds. Also incorpating a Quad slalom (insane) and a dirt jump competition, with Food and tunes supplied.

Race entrance is £5.

All the locals have been working hard on the course and it is looking good for the races. Some of the less brave locals have been moaning we’ve made it too hard/high/fast, so if anyone fancies coming down for the day/weekend to show them how its done……

Anyway, here is a quick run through of what’s going on and where its at…..

The Event itself………..

The main part of the Day will be involving the Dual and Quad Eliminators. Running on two (nearly)separate courses, these races wil run (almost) in parallel, providing entertainment through out the day. We have on site caterers and a sound system, as well as a dirt jump competition which will hopefully be sponsored by local Skate/clothing shop Exit. There will also be plenty of sunshine (to be confirmed) as well as , dare I say it, beer.

The series prize is being supported by Stif with a Chameleon as First prize.

Sponsor begging bit….

Obviously we would like to be able to provide individual prizes and so we are still looking for more support on this front (please). We would also like some banners/promotional (Sticker/posters) material to give the day a more involved feel, and increase the enjoyment of all racing. We would be more than happy to accommodate any distribution of promotional material or advertising you would like, in return for any prizes etc you could donate.

End Sponsor Begging bit….

Getting there……….

The race is being held in a disused quarry, situated on the ring road around Leeds. To get there you join the ring road (the A6110 I believe) and travel round towards the point where it meets the A660 to Otley.

If travelling anti-clockwise around the ring road, upon reaching the A660/A6110 roundabout you carry on round the ring road for about another ½ mile (towards Horsforth). Before you pass under the railway bridge you will see a building with a large sign reading WIRA on the side of it. You need to turn into the road before the WIRA building called Clayton Wood Rise. At the top of the road on the right hand side is a new office development which is currently un-used, parking will most likely be available there. The race is in the quarry, just through the woods at the end of the Rise, it will be signposted.

If travelling Clockwise around the ring road you will need to turnoff between the Horsforth Roundabout (it has a Shell garage on it) and the A660 roundabout. Just after the Horsforth round about there is a railway bridge, pass under this and turn right into Clayton Wood Rise just after the WIRA building. Parking is as per AntiClockwise directions.
