The Tour de France, the world’s most famous bike race, starts on Saturday 5 July and it’s going to be on old-school terrestrial TV. It’s not all good news, though – if you want to catch up with Tour action at sensible times of day you’ll have to be able to see ITV2, which is one of those new-fangled digital channels that you need extra bits of gubbinses to receive.
ITV2 will have live coverage of the Prologue time trial starting from the Eiffel Tower on 5 July, and will have an hour-long highlights programme from each stage at 7pm. For those of us still firmly in the analogue age, there’ll be a “late night replay” on ITV1.
ITV1 will also have live race coverage every Sunday afternoon during the race, starting on Sunday 6 July, with special rest day editions going out on ITV2 on 16 and 22 July.
The presenters will be the tried-and-tested Gary Imlach, Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen, joined by Beverley Turner and Ned Boulting. This is the centenary year of the Tour – should be well worth watching…
