Steve Cram has unveiled the Kielder Run-Bike-Run, a new duathlon that will take place on Saturday 16 October 2010 in Kielder Water & Forest Park, Northumberland.
The route will follow an almost entirely off-road course around northern Europe’s largest man-made lake, Kielder Water, in North East England. The trail is the newly completed Lakeside Way that stretches 26 miles around the shoreline of Kielder Water.
Steve Cram said: “Kielder Water & Forest Park is my favourite place to run in the world. In addition to the main marathon we have added this duathlon team event to the weekend of activities, splitting the marathon distance into three parts.
“Most of the course is off-road and it offers a wonderful test for trail runners, adventure racers and cyclists alike. Add to that the stunning setting, with a wonderful new view at every twist and turn.”
The Lakeside Way, a £3m project which forms the marathon course, is a multi-user trail suitable for walkers, runners, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair and pushchair users. The trail offers visitors new views and the opportunity to interact with even more of the park’s abundant wildlife and take in its scenic landscape.
Teams of three can enter the Kielder Run-Bike-Run in either a corporate, family or team category (entry fee is £100 per team). The deadline for all entries is Friday 17 September 2010 or earlier should the entry limit be reached.
