Scotland’s Chris Hoy has won the 1km time trial at the World Track Championships in Copenhagen. He recorded a time of 1:01.893 (an average speed of 36.9mph, calculator fans), beating world record holder Arnaud Tournant by just one thousandth of a second. Which is pretty close.
Hoy paid tribute to injured Olympic Champion Jason Queally. Interviewed by the BBC, he said, “If Jason wasn’t there, I don’t think I’d be here now. He’s been a great inspiration for me.”
Later in the evening Tony Gibb took a silver medal in the 15km event. Britain may be a bit ropey at some sports, but we’re pretty good at track cycling…
